South Australia’s finest

After all the Red Center adventure we like to turn it down a little, just to take it easy and relax. South Australia is the place to be, with a kick-off in laidback Adelaide. Australia’s holiday period has just started, so that means a busy CBD full of shopping cheerful people and Christmas decoration in the streets. We visit the Adelaide Central Markets and buy all kinds of tasty bites for our own tapas night on the balcony of our hotel.

Adelaide has everything we could wish for: a nice beach, great bike routes through the city and lively bars and restaurants. It’s pretty easy to fill our days with all kinds of activities, especially when these activities include wine. We visit the national wine center for a tasting (or two) and try various Australian classics. When leaving the city we even extend our wine activities by visiting the Bremerton cellar in Langhorne Creek. We discovered there is something as a ‘sparkling red’, a wine South Australia is famous for. That’s at least one bottle to take with us!

South Australia’s landscape is beautiful and we enjoy camping here. One of our stops is near Mount Gambier, where we visit its famous sinkhole and the volcanic blue lake. In the near wildlife reserve we even spot koalas for the first time!
